奨学金
Scholarships for the Financial Support of International Students
There are a variety of scholarships to support financially international students. Applicant eligibility and the number recruited vary according to the scholarship. Recruitment information is posted on bulletin boards at each faculty and International Affairs Department as well as this website.
1.Applicant Eligibility (excluding Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) scholarships)
Applicants should meet all of the conditions below.
① Applicant’s GPA of the previous academic year should meet the required grade point average:
undergraduates: 2.3 and above
graduate students: 2.3 and above
② Applicants should not have repeated a year due to poor academic performance.
③ The average monthly remittance to the applicant must be 90,000 yen or less. (Admission fees, tuition fees, etc. are not included)
④ Annual income of the financial supporter should less than ¥5,000,000.
⑤ Applicant is not a recipient of Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) scholarship or Interexchange Association Japan (IAJ), nor a sponsored student of foreign government.
⑥ Applicant who needs the financial support to study
⑦ Applicant who has never been disciplined by Okayama University
⑧ Applicants should meet any other requirements specified by the sponsor.
2. Application
Follow the application procedures for each scholarship. Applicants at Tsushima campus or Shikata campus submit the required documentation to the International Affairs Department of their campus. Applicants at other campuses should submit the required documents to the Academic Affairs office of that campus. Recruitment information is posted on bulletin boards at each faculty and the International Affairs Department as well as this website. Download the application form at this website and submit the necessary documents to the International Affairs Department by due date.
Late applications cannot be accepted for any reason.
3. Scholarship Selection Criteria
Scholarship candidates applying through the university are selected based on “the Scholarship Guidelines for Privately Funded International Students.
Scholarship candidates are selected based on: 1. Academic performance; 2. Economic situation; 3. Grade year; 4. Personal (have they received any disciplinary action, have they violated immigration control laws, have they violated any other rules); 5. Whether or not having received any scholarship in the previous year.
4. Note
① Those who are waiting for the result for the scholarship cannot apply for any other scholarship.
Refer to the scholarship list and choose one. (However, if concurrent scholarship payments are allowed under both/all scholarships’ regulation, you can apply.)
② Please understand any willful false statement is sufficient cause for cancellation and return of the scholarship.
③ If you are selected as a recipient of a scholarship for which you have applied directly to the sponsor, please report this to the International Affairs Department. Discovery of failure to report has serious consequences: you will not be able to apply for any scholarship through the university and you may be asked to return the scholarship.
5. List of Scholarships
(1) JASSO Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students (“学習奨励費 Gakushu-Shoreihi”)
Applicants with excellent academic records and personal achievements selected. A monthly stipend of 48,000 yen is provided for successful applicants for one year. This is the best scholarship in the number of the recipients, but also the most competitive. Recruiting period is between the beginning and the middle of April. Application deadline is around at the end of April.
(2) Scholarships by Local Governments, International Associations, and Private Foundations
The list of the scholarships below is drawn from records based on AY2020. The application guidelines and recruitment conditions are subject to change. (For the latest information, please check the International Affairs Department Japanese website )
